Captain Edward Lee Green, 72, of Kenbridge, Va., passed away May 24, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Kelly-Green; his daughters, Naomi Crosier and Venus Michelle Stanek; his son, Ward Green; his stepdaughter, Glorina Messer; his stepson, Jonathan Price; his sister, Elizabeth Wooden; 15 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He served his country bravely for over 6 years as an enlisted man in the Navy in the Vietnam War in Da Nang, and aboard the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Independence, earning the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (60), and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. After leaving the Navy, he attended the University of Tennessee, where he graduated with 3 BS degrees in Geography, Geology, and Environmental Science. He was also selected to join the Delta Tau Omega Geological Honor Society. Upon graduation he returned to the military as an officer in the Army, where he earned the Army Commendation Medal 1st Oak Leaf Cluster and attained the rank of captain. He was also a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan karate and an avid fisherman. The family will receive friends starting at 6PM on Tuesday, June 4th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 110 E.
