Wavel Rice Lunsford, 95, of Midlothian, VA passed away peacefully in her home on February 26, 2023. She was born on September 1, 1927, in Big Laurel, Madison County, NC to the late John Parm Rice and Dona Coates Rice. She was preceded in death by her husband; James Calvin Lunsford,  her son; Gary Wayne Lunsford; her sisters, Ophelia Rice Bertch, Irene Rice Arrington, Stella Rice Fender, Thelma Rice Lewis and Velma Rice; and her brothers, Kenneth Gudger Rice, Wendell Rice, Ralph Rice and Bronson Rice. She is survived by her children; James Lynwood Lunsford, Kathy Shaw (Chris), Karen Allen (Victor), Penny Godsey (David), Wilma St.John (Roger), Patrica Finney (George), 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Wavel graduated Laurel High School in1945 and moved to Crewe, Va where she met her husband, married and later settled in Midlothian, Va. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. The family will receive friends Saturday March 4, 2023 at Belfast Baptist Church, 2169 Bible Road, Crewe, VA 23930, from 1PM until start of services at 2PM.
