BAKER, Leroy Clayton Baker, 83, of Kenbridge, Va. went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2020. He was the father of the late William Bradford Baker; was the last surviving child of the eleven born to Richard Edward Baker and Iva Mae Pierce Baker. Edith Mae, Rosa Elizabeth, Barney William, Colon Eugene, Robert, Iva Lee, June Faye, Lloyd Albert, Earl Julian and Ada Louise preceded him in death. His childhood years were spent in Chesapeake, Va. He graduated from Great Bridge High School and was a lifetime member of Centerville Baptist Church in Great Bridge. After high school he joined the US Army and then the Virginia National Guard where he retired after 32 years of service. He worked at Naval Support Activity Norfolk in Chesapeake, Va. where one of his duties was training German Shepherds. He later worked at MATES at Fort Pickett, Blackstone, Va. where he was a tank mechanic. He volunteered many years of service on local fire departments and rescue squads. After his retirement he drove for Cedar Tech and later Biggs construction where he was in charge of transporting heavy equipment to and from jobsites. Leroy always wanted to learn something new so he took on the operations at the Lunenburg County Airport. From fuel supply to the weather station to grass cutting he was dedicated to all of it. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Shirley Ann Martin Baker; his daughter, Julie Baker Hargis; step-daughters, Kim Lail Biggs and Shelia Lail Peade; sister-in-law Anna Baker and special niece DeeAnna Turlington. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic – services were private. Leroy was interred in the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery.
